Dark dreams of electronic warfare and transmissions from dying, alien civilizations received via malfunctioning orbitals are the best summations we can come up with when listening to Nathaniel Shannon & The Vanishing Twin.
Shannon has a new song and video out for “Mater Tenebrarum,” and you can check out our premiere below:
“Mater Tenebrarum” appeared on Shannon’s The Three Mothers EP which dropped on Halloween via Aqualamb Records (and yes, it’s totally inspired by Dario Argento’s trilogy).
Shannon sheds some light on the song and video below:
“The concept behind the Mater Tenebrarum video is fairly simple … an ocular hallucination representation of the confusion created by being influenced by the succubus in which the song describes. Director Frank Haung had been showing me these painted 35mm projections he had been making, which I absolutely loved.
“We filmed the star of the video, Ellen Philips, going through a dance and incantation, blurring the line of victim and witch, with Frank’s homemade, 35mm projections playing over her. I wanted the video to be a visual accompaniment for the song rather than a narrative. What Frank came up with is exactly what I had visually in my head when writing the song. ”
