Video Premiere: Nero Kane – ‘Mary of Silence’

Nero Kane is an Italian psych dark folk songwriter whose music is intimate, minimal, and decadent. “Mary of Silence” is the third episode of the short film, directed by Samantha Stella, that launches Nero Kane’s second album, 2020’s Tales of Faith and Lunacy, available through Nasoni Records, BloodRock Records and Anacortes Records.

New Noise Magazine is proud to premiere the video for “Mary of Silence” below:

Both in his vocals and guitar style, Nero Kane’s European roots intertwine with America’s desert sound in a project full of emotional vision. His music is particularly concerned with death, religion, and love. His sound has been critically defined as a suspended and crepuscular music where the melancholy of Nick Cave and the last Johnny Cash are mixed in a spare psych-folk and stark blues-rock.

Nero Kane is very linked to the American landscape and music style. His debut album Love In A Dying World, was recorded in Los Angeles with producer Joe Cardamone (ex-The Icarus Line) and released in 2018 via American Primitive LA art collective, together with an experimental film shot by Samantha Stella in the desert landscape of California, which was screened in many museums and art galleries.

On the track, Nero Kane states:

“Nero Kane’s voice and Samantha Stella’s choirs are resting on a soft guitar riff and a carpet made of organ and violin to accentuate the darker and more dramatic side of a spirituality torn between earthly unhappiness and the need for abandonment. Kane and Stella are the protagonists of the short film that, following the cinematic concept of the album, combines American western landscape elements, in particular Californian ghost towns, with iconographic elements of European religious culture to weave an algid and dark sonic/aesthetic psychedelia.”

The goth-folk Americana of Tales of Faith and Lunacy, a visionary story with a cinematic flavour conceived in a personal vision between faith and passion, gained stellar reviews with many Italian and international magazines. The album was listed among 2020 best Italian discographic releases.
