New Noise Magazine is pleased to be bringing forth the exclusive video premiere of “Heatwave” by Nominee. The song is charged with an emotional fire that breathes through catharsis. The song has a raw presence embedded into the sound, keeping up a true punk and pissed off aesthetic. The song is off of the recent split between Nominee & Sundressed, out now via Outerloop Records.

“‘Heatwave’ is a deeply personal song. When I was 17, in the summer after my senior year of high school, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Leading up to my diagnosis was the darkest, loneliest part of my life. I was suffering from depression but at the time, before a clinical diagnosis, it just alone; like nothing I could do or say would fix how I was feeling. All of my friends were preparing to leave for college, while I was going to be staying at home in the fall. I couldn’t express to anyone how I was feeling. It seemed like it would be a burden to any family or friends who found out. The last thing I wanted was to push people away by putting my issues on them. I was embarrassed. In this time, I was waking up, faking a smile throughout the day.

Finally, in the end of the summer, after weeks of feeling this way with no improvement, I made the choice to take my own life. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t picture a future for myself and I didn’t think anyone could possibly understand. Obviously, I’m still here. Those couple weeks are a blur, but the one thing that I learned with 100% certainty is that no one is ever alone. After my attempt, I began seeing a doctor to figure out what was triggering my emotions to take such harsh turns.

‘Heatwave’ is about the weeks leading up to the incident, reflecting on the loneliness and desperation that lead to my decision. For years, I hid my disorder from my loved ones. Only recently, just before the release of Drag Me Out, did I become open about it. And now that it’s out in the open I’m becoming more and more willing to speak and write about it. This is the first time talking about my suicide attempt since it happened. ‘Heatwave’ is for anyone who feels like they can’t see a future.

While the song reflects on some of the darkest periods of my life, the video shows some of my happiest.” – Chris
