Octopus Montage are back with their new single and video, “Lie2Me,” premiering right here at New Noise.
The track and video follow the April 2020 release of their debut album, “Lie2Me” combining heavy riffs, dual vocals, and highly confessional lyrics, reminiscent of early-2000s metalcore with a modern, fresh take.
The lyrics of the track play out like an open letter, written by someone in desperate need of mental respite, based on the personal experiences of vocalist and songwriter Alex Jennings.
Jennings expands,
“The song was written about my own experiences around the time we first went into lockdown. At that time, there was so much uncertainty as to what the future held for everyone, and because there was effectively nothing ahead to focus on, I ended up in a dark place digging up things from my past. I think the chorus sums up the experience well. I was so wrapped up in so many different things, even the simplest things didn’t seem true to me. Even if it wasn’t the case, I just wanted someone to try and prove to me that everything was going to be OK, even if it was a lie, hence the main part of the chorus being ‘Please lie to me.’”
The dark lyrical themes are boosted by the instrumental, as the band continue to experiment with their unique deathcore-adjacent sound, along with new guitarist Adam Swarbrick adding more flavor to the band’s already distinctive sound.
The band chat more about the new track:
“Despite the guilt-ridden tone of the song, this single is arguably our favorites. We’ve implemented so many new elements into our sound with dual vocals overlapping each other, lower tuning for heavier effect, and we genuinely believe that we are bettering ourselves with every release.”
