New Noise Magazine is pleased to bring forth the video premiere for “Flowers” by Russia’s Polly Tikk. The song opens with a soft coo, slowly building in a musical crescendo with more instruments adding to each layer. The drum beat keeps a steady momentum, giving the rest of the orchestration a chance to dive into a dark bass groove or space out with amorphous vocal lines. The song plays like a performance, twirling through different progressions with ease. The song’s video adds to the dark pulse that takes over midway through the song, shadowing the musicians in a haze pink, devilish glow.

Drawing influences from Prince, Serge Gainsbourg and Lenard Cohen and mixing with modern post punk sound comes Russian born Berliner Polly Tikk who releases her debut single on the much hyped Anglo / Berlin label Duchess Box Records (Gurr, Laura Carbone).
“Growing up I listened to a lot of music in my dads car from Queen to Gipsy Kings but as i got turned to a teenager we started listening to the music i liked as we were driving and it was mostly PJ Harvey”
After relocating to Berlin and meeting her partners in crime Nicolas Pannetier and Yoann Pisterman she started performing and writing songs about home, moving, digital work and modern love.
“Flowers comes from this moment when you are down and don’t find a way to overcome your failures. I wrote these two melancholic verses in winter, took them to rehearsal and the guys came up with this kind of Motorhead rage riff to it. That gave a really powerful bang to the dreamy songwriter beginning. For the recording we involved our friend Manuel Miethe to do an ecstatic free jazz solo on Soprano sax”
