Prince of Lilies are gearing up for the released of their debut album, Vent, and ahead of the release have revealed a new track, “The Year I Broke,” along with a music video.
The band fuse grunge, punk, and garage rock, giving indie rock a “well-deserved punch in the face,” their music featuring a clear pop sound with a hardcore edge.
The music video for “The Year I Broke” features rare, never-before-seen Z-Boys of Dogtown style footage from the ’70s and ’80s of former World Champion Skateboarder Kenny Mollica in his youth.
“When I wrote this song, I was at my lowest point thinking of ways to take my own life,” the singer says. “I couldn’t sleep at night thinking of all the things I wanted to say to people that I blamed for making me unhappy and unsuccessful. It finally dawned on me that I was mad at myself for feeling like a total failure, and no one else was to blame but me.
“When I was young, I was full of positivity and believed in a bright future. Getting to record with Albini was a life changer, and when I heard myself back singing those lyrics, I grew up and decided to give it another go.”
The debut album is dropping September 24, but you can stream the music video for “The Year I Broke” below:
