Russ Rankin is unleashing his new single and video, “Babel,” premiering exclusively today at New Noise. The song comes from Rankin’s upcoming album, due January 2022.
Russ Rankin has as storied tenure with a number of projects under his belt, with Good Riddance and numerous other ventures contributing to the punk scene worldwide. His solo material has Rankin continuing to refine his songwriting, delving into social and political topics, and looking inward at his own love and loss.
Rankin’s music approaches the subjects with an unflinching honesty, seeking to understand and embrace the inner turmoil of the human condition. His delivery, distinct and recognizable, allows Rankin to advocate for social justice and animal rights, to reach within and far beyond the borders of the punk scene.
“‘Babel,’ based on the story of the Tower of Babel, speaks to the time when humanity had one, common, tongue, which then, due to rancor and mistrust, splintered into a hundred different languages,” Rankin says regarding the new track. “This event foretold centuries of war and turmoil across the world, all born from a fundamental inability to communicate.”
