Minneapolis, Minnesota-based rock band Scrunchies are sharing their new video, “No Home Planet,” premiering exclusively here at New Noise.
The band began as guitarist and vocalist Laura Larson and drummer and vocalist Danielle Cusack connected through a mutual admiration of each others’ bands, along with a short stint together in a Buzzcocks cover band called Buzzcunts. They are both passionate about helping young women and queers to find empowerment in playing music and embrace a DIY ethos.
They brought Matt Castore on bass and proceeded to exploded onto the Twin Cities music scene with their electric energy to their live sets. Scrunchies are preparing to release their sophomore album, Feral Coast, which continues their consciousness of the intersection of personal and political, pushing the edges of soft and heavy with surrealistic lyrics and melodic hooks.
Scrunchies Larson chats more about the single and video:
“’No Home Planet’ is the first single off of Scrunchies’ sophomore album Feral Coast, recalling the messy and cathartic energy of late-’80s/early-’90s punk, grunge, and post-punk bands. The video includes animation from Pacific Northwest artist Violet Crabtree, who has also created videos for Tacocat and Mommy Long Legs.”
