Surrounder recently dropped the single on October 15, and now, the band are premiering their video for “Capitalism,” here at New Noise.
The band wrote the song to discuss capitalism and the opposition surrounding it. Surrounder open up about the inspirations behind the song:
“We were inspired by the Mark Fisher quote, ‘It’s easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism.’ We wanted to write a song about the madness of opposing capitalism piece by piece, and how hard it is to conceptualize the totality of capitalist control. Since the system is so complicated and fucking us over in all these different layers, it moves us to get lost in the details and not associate our human suffering with anything concrete.
“The original title of the song was ‘Capitalism: An Overture,’ because we had this idea of it being a little musical about capitalism that is constantly changing scenes, and that’s what we were going for with the song structure.”
