Video Premiere: The Angry Lisas – ‘Stonewaller’

The perfect song for pausing and reassessing life, The Angry Lisas’ ‘Stonewaller” is out this fall on their forthcoming record Slate Violet.

“Stonewaller was a song that came to me at the right time,” Sean Taylor explains. “I was parked at this mental intersection looking through the windshield at the end of my 20s and really trying to figure out how to shake a lot of my younger tendencies. My friend had just ironically gifted me this thrift-store self-help book about ways to communicate more effectively when all you want to do is shut down. This is something I’ve never really been any good at.
“I was thumbing through the pages one night and stumbled across this chapter comparing the warning signs of relationships collapsing to the four horsemen of the apocalypse. I thought it was a hilariously over-the-top metaphor, but at the same time, it seemed to capture how I’ve felt when everything seems to go wrong. Sometimes that really does feel like the end of the world.
“I wrote ‘Stonewaller’ thinking about some of the times where running has felt easier than staying, and how I don’t feel like running anymore. It’s a song I wrote to remind myself to look internally instead of externally and to recalibrate when things feel off.”
