The Real You are a pop-punk/emo outfit based in Gainesville, Florida that started in the summer of 2018.
The band consists of the three founding members—Dennis Pffieffer (vocals), Tyler Moscarello (guitar and vocals), and Isaac Morales (guitar and vocals)—who had experience playing and writing music together in previous bands. In early 2020, Chris “Kyle” Miller joined to play drums and, later in the year, Mark Muldowney joined the group on bass.
Since their formation, The Real You have released two EPs, the first being Motions of Life, a three-song EP released in 2019, and We’ve Got It All Figured Out, which was a six-song EP released in March 2020. The Real You have also played with many notable acts including We The Kings, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, Capstan, Can’t Swim, and completed a mini-southeast U.S. tour during the summer of 2019.
The Real You’s latest single and video, titled “Secondhand Smoke,” explores themes the band has previously not written about such as loss, death, and reflection on one’s childhood. The video tries to capture a nostalgic and comforting aesthetic while also emphasizing how places that are familiar can feel so foreign after losing someone who is important to you.
The Real You blend a mix of pop-punk, midwest emo, and aggressive, heavy riffs to portray the stages of grief, with lyrics that tell the story of Pffieffer’s own battle losing his father to lung cancer.

On their new song and video, The Real You have the following to say:
“Our main goal is to be as genuine with our songwriting as we possibly can while incorporating different influences from all the different music we listen to and all the different experiences we have in our own individual lives. We’re always trying to find new ways to innovate our sound, and with this latest release, we feel we are heading in that direction.”
