Video Spotlight: Cool Set – ‘Summer Retro’

Cool Set

Dallas-based Cool Set are eager to get back on track and press forward through the COVID-19 pandemic, releasing their debut single and music video, “Summer Retro,” which has been in the making for about a year.

The duo came together through a mutual friend after years of dabbling in the industry. Jose Sandoval was in an indie rock band in 2021, attended the Musician’s Institute in California, and his song “Unwind” went viral on Spotify, with more than 1 million streams. Tex Sirisawat played in punk and indie rock bands, utilizing his abilities in a number of instruments from keys to drums.

“Summer Retro” is a summery, electronic-pop track and acts as a perfect introduction to the group’s sound. It came about after one night when Tex and Jose were bouncing ideas of each other. They had been intimately close with their own ideas up to this point and clung onto the other’s ideas as they shared together.

The video has the perfect summer backdrop, as the duo traverse the entire city of Los Angeles. The video incorporates traveling, studio, and documentary clips as B-roll to show what was happening behind the scenes, and the video and song overall act as a celebration of everyone’s perseverance through the pandemic and excitement to get back to a sense of normalcy.
