Ahead of their new, four-track EP, Empty Hands, out December 3, German hardcore band Kill Her First are revealing their new single and video, “This Ain’t a Cherry-Picking Party.”
The band were launched from a lo-fi, living room jam session and since have been through a lot. Kill Her First were initially a group of four women, back in the summer of 2007, though they have evolved and grown through several shifts and member changes. Their original aim of stirring up a predominantly male sub-genre of post-hardcore still holds true today, though.
The new single is an aggressive, robust jam, with shout-style, spoken-word vocals surrounding a melodic, 2000s-emo hook and hearty guitar riffs. The lyrics tackle the end of a dark period, and vocalist Gero weaves in symbolism and experiences from individuals in the band.
“We focused heavily on a tight rhythm section that rolls along stronger than ever, which you can especially hear in the breakdown,” Gero says.
