Roy Niv recently shared his single and video, “Stay Up,” written during the height of the pandemic as a ballad that constantly threatens to burst from its restraints.
Roy Niv first made a name for himself in the hit Israeli TV show, Spell Keepers, though he knew he wanted to push forward to embrace music. He’s since used his platform to begin making his earnest brand of pop-rock and shows up in that tradition with the new track, “Stay Up.”
The song is beautiful, though under it all, it has a noticeable air of uneasiness and restlessness. As the instruments begin to slowly introduce themselves on top of one another, it finally leads to a climax where Roy Niv emphasizes the drama of every lyric with his vocals.
The video shows Niv referencing his continued commitment to romantic narrative, playing a young soldier torn between his obligations to his country and his love for his soulmate. The director, Tomer Levi, brings the era to life, and viewers can’t help but question if Niv will make it through the battle, or if his love affair will survive.
