Waxahatchee have been developing their sound and unique style since 2010, from the beautiful Waxahatchee Creek, Alabama. Vocalist Katie Crutchfield has created this amazing singer-songwriter Americana-folk-rock-country blend! Take the Cranberries into the deep country with a splash of Thelma & Louise rebellious wide-open freedom ambiance with her voice and her presence.
Katie took this path on her own accord, and the journey through her fine-tuned country authenticity and singer/ songwriter exploration shines through her lyrics and storytelling. Her folk jamming with that country blend captures all listeners
Her latest album, Tigers Blood, is coming out March 22 via Anti-Records. You can watch the video for “Bored” below. it comes with a fun video directed by Corbett Jones and Nick Simonite. The video takes place at the Devil’s Backbone Tavern, Texas. You can see her fans smiling ear to ear; they all love her, and she loves them.
Her songs are moving and strong, and her band mates are loving this journey with her! You can almost see the hell she’s gone through with her grit and toughness. Katie Crutchfield is a definitely making her mark this year.
“I feel like my comfort zone when writing songs lies somewhere on the emotional spectrum of sadness and heartache,” she says. “Writing from a place of happiness scares me. Too earnest. Anger scares me even more,” Crutchfield explains. “I wrote ‘Bored’ about one of those situations where anger was called for and was the only authentic place from which to write about what I was experiencing. It was a challenge for me and ‘Bored’ is the end result.”
