Southern California’s Ways Away released their debut, self-titled album last year and played three California shows before the pandemic shut the door on further touring. Instead of going quiet, the band marched on, recording two singles and a follow-up record. The latest single, “And For A Moment I Don’t Wanna Die,” is streaming now and will be featured on a split seven-inch in 2022 with Iron Chic on Dead Broke / Other People Records.
Formed by drummer Jared Shavelson (Painted Black, Boysetsfire, Bronx) and guitarist Sergie Loobkoff (Samiam, Knapsack) in 2019, they enticed singer Jesse Barnett (Stick To Your Guns) and pulled in Loobkoff’s former bandmate in Racquet Club, Ian Smith on bass.
Recorded on a recent hot August Temecula day with Beau Burchell, who also produced their self-titled debut album AFAMIDWD, the track showcases Barnett’s melodic growl and sense of pop melody over a bed of twin guitars and thunderous drums. The song gives a taste of the upcoming album follow-up coming early 2022.
The band has four Southern California shows in October:
October 13th – San Diego, CA @sodabarsd – Tickets
October 14th – Fullerton, CA @programme – Tickets
October 15th – Los Angeles, CA @midnighthour_sfv – Tickets
October 16th – Long Beach, CA @supply_and_demand – Tickets
