Ahead of their forthcoming fall headline tour, Whitney have unveiled the official video for their new single, “Polly.” Tokyo-based award-winning animator and illustrator Sarina Nihei directed, animated and hand-painted the entire video over the course of two months. It focuses on vices that serve as causes for broken relationships between people and also represents the idea that no one is able to understand other people’s actual feelings. “Polly” is off of Light Upon The Lake, released earlier this year on Secretly Canadian.
The song has a somber tone, reflecting the way that Whitney was even started. Julien Ehrlich and Max Kakacek were both going through difficult and tumultuous breakups that would become much of the subject content for Light Upon The Lake. There’s a lot of true feeling behind these songs,” says Ehrlich. “We wanted them to have a part of our personalities in them. We wanted the songs to have soul.” Whitney are about to embark on a North American and U.K. tour this fall.
