Wrekmeister Harmonies have debuted the opening track to their upcoming album, Light Falls. The song, entitled “Light Falls I: The Mantra,” is meditative in appearance, have J.R. Robinson and Esther Shaw work with guitarist Ryley Walker to conceive the tune. The epic seven and a half minute track mainly preserves the spotlight for the guitar, adding ambiance to the atmosphere with keyboards bubbling in the atmosphere. The vocals seem distant, as if echoing the message subliminally, forcing the listener to truly listen.
J.R. Robinson had this to say about Light Falls, “I wanted to sonically convey the idea of slow, creeping change. When I came up with the title I was thinking of how when daylight turns to night time it’s a very gradual process. You are lulled into watching this slow, peaceful sunset but then all of a sudden you look up and it’s dark.”
Light Falls, as a whole, features Robinson and Shaw joined by an array of musicians: Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s Thierry Amar (bass, contrabass), Sophie Trudeau (piano, violin, vocals) and Timothy Herzog (drums), Cave / Bitchin Bajas’ Cooper Crain as well as Ryley Walker. The resulting output with the new lineup continues to transcend classification and expand Wrekmeister Harmonies’sonic palette on what is their most focused, compelling and powerful release to date.
