Season of Mist have announced the signing of the German/Dutch progressive extreme metal band Alkaloid. The band, featuring Hannes Grossman (ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist,  Blotted Science and more) – drums, Christian Munzner (ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist, and more) – guitar, Linus Klausenitzer (Obscura, Noneuclid) – bass, Danny Tunker (ex-Aborted, ex-God Dethroned, and more) – guitar, and Morean (Dark Fortress, Noneuclid) – vocals, guitar), are writing their second record now for a late 2017 release.

Regarding their signing, the band comments, “After crowdfunding and self-releasing our debut album The Malkuth Grimoire, we have come to a point where we simply need a reliable partner, who fully understands our musical vision and believes in it 100%. Therefore Season of Mist is the perfect label for us. We are extremely excited about our collaboration and cannot wait to start producing our next album.”

In Alkaloid’s own words, the band is defined “through the field of tension created between musical opposites. Alkaloid merge extreme metal and other more diverse genres of music into a unique style that people will somehow find familiar, but haven‘t heard yet.

All musicians in the band are known and active players who all have a much broader view of music than just blastbeats and growls. Alkaloid want to establish from the beginning that they have many faces, and oscillating between (seemingly) contrary or mutually exclusive styles is a factor. To use playing technique only to write good songs, is another factor.”

Alkaloid was founded by drummer Hannes Grossmann and vocalist/guitarist Morean in 2013. The band, set to push extreme metal to new limits, quickly came together by adding renowned musicians from wildly progressive death metal bands such as Necrophagist, Obscura, Spawn of Posession, and more. The collective recorded the now acclaimed debut The Malkuth Grimoire, which was successfully crowdfunded and self-released in March 2015. The band over-passed their initial goal of  €12,000 for album production shortly after the launch of their Indiegogo campaign.

Following the launch of their album, the band performed across Europe, culminating  with one special showcase in Cairo, Egypt, which saw the band shooting a video for their song “Cthulhu.” Alkaloid now set their sights on pushing the boundaries of metal once again, with a new album being prepared for release via Season of Mist worldwide.
