The Deflators are a melodic punk band from New Jersey.
They have a new EP coming out called Check Your Pressure and. Even though their information says that the EP comes out August 17, it seems to already be streaming on the band’s Bandcamp page, with the first single hitting streaming services next week. So catch it on Bandcamp before it goes live everywhere!
This band have a very old-fashioned pop punk style heavily reminiscent of The Replacements, complete with some Tommy Stinson-style bass lines. Opening track “Liar Liar” has a little bit of a modern pop-punk flare, but the vocals bring to mind the best melodic punk bands of the ’80s. Then, “I Need to Know” has a very ’80s, muscular guitar part while still maintaining that talent for pop hooks. “Clever Girl” has an infectiously catchy guitar riff, but it’s really the sense of melody that carries the song. Finally “SSLM” ends the album with a melody that sounds deeply nostalgic somehow.
