Trapped Like Rats are a melodic hardcore band from Orcutt, California.
They put out a self-titled seven-inch last year on Burnt Wolf Records. It’s streaming now on their Bandcamp, where you can also order the album on CD and vinyl.
Opening track “Anger Flares” begins with an absolutely resounding guitar riff. In fact, the guitar on the whole track is really outstanding, with a lot of guitar solos for a hardcore song. “Double Down” then focuses on a walking bass line that becomes the stand out for this song. “New York State Police” really makes sure to lean heavily into the melodies, while the lyrics are not subtle in their hatred of cops. The seven-inch ends on its own shortest track, “Ronnie II,” which is a fun little tune about a sheltered young man finally allowing himself to get into a little bit of trouble.
