On Sunday, April 26th, the legendary New York band, Quicksand, celebrated the 30th anniversary of their album Manic Compression at Rough Trade Below, which is located in the basement of NYC’s 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The album is often cited as a defining record for the post-hardcore genre and a landmark of the 90s alternative rock landscape. For its celebration, ticketholders were given the privilege of purchasing the newly remastered vinyl and/or book.

The album was initially released by the major label, Island Records, in 1995. It has since been out of print, and the 30th Anniversary Edition is out now on Iodine Recordings. It has been remastered from the original 1995 master tapes by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden and updated with meticulously reconstructed artwork by Melinda Beck (the original artist for the album’s artwork). You can order it HERE.

Additionally, a new book written by Tom Bejgrowicz has been released, which tells the oral history by its members, but also includes people behind the scenes, like visual artist, Melinda Beck, their peers (Orange 9mm, Into Another, CIV), and bands they’ve inspired, ranging from Fiddlehead and At The Drive In to Limp Bizkit + more!

New Noise Magazine’s Marketing Director, Chris Enriquez (also of the bands Spotlights, Julie Christmas and On the Might of Princes) moderated the event and spoke with Walter Schreifels (lead singer/guitarist of Quicksand), Richie Birkenhead (lead singer of Into Another/Underdog), Chaka Malik (lead singer of Orange 9mm/BURN) as well as Melinda Beck and Tom Bejgrowicz in front of a packed house. It can be ordered HERE.

In the audience was Quicksand’s bassist, Sergio Vega, who later joined Walter, Melinda, and Tom for meet and greets to sign books and records at the end of the event. All photos were taken by Adam Tanner.
