Headlining during the second week open at the new home of the famous Saint Vitus in Brooklyn, NY was Los Angeles-based band Terror, with support from King Nine, Whispers, and Love Sick. In partnership with Flatspot Records and Converse, fans spilled into the venue excited for the return of Saint Vitus and to grab a cool new pair of shoes!

New York’s own Love Sick opened the night, and I was really looking forward to it since I’d never had the chance to see them before. They put out an EP last summer titled I Am No One Now.

They have this distinct stylistic echo that combines with their classic gritty hardcore tones. Seemingly expertly crafted, intense, and high-energy tempos, I only wish their set was longer because it was that good! It goes without saying these guys are no strangers to the NYHC scene, and their stage presence was great. I also wish the crowd moved more for them, but maybe they were still warming up for the rest of the night.

Whispers graced the stage second, showcasing their low-pitched screams and heavy bass lines. Of all the bands playing a set today, I was least familiar with them, but they joined Flatspot Records’ roster of amazing bands back in 2024. They released their debut Flatspot Records EP, Yom-Ma-Lok, in December 2024.

King Nine’s set really stirred the room; the crowd got a bit more passionate and intense. Another band rooted in New York’s hardcore scene. Most of their guitar riffs are high-energy and have an impending-doom sound, seemingly rooted in classic metal but with their own unique twist, layered with frontman Dan Seely’s broad vocal range.

After releasing their 10th full-length album, Still Suffer, under Flatspot Records back in April, it seems Terror has been touring nonstop, just finishing off in Europe in August. These guys are nearly unstoppable and are always at the top of their game. I was blown away by the sheer energy of their performance at BnB Bowl back in May, and this show was no exception to that. Dedicated to the hardcore scene for over 20 years, Terror delivered a set with profound passion, featuring their classic breakdowns. Their fans understood the assignment and were no stranger to stage diving again and again. Terror is set to close out the year by heading back to Europe for yet another tour.
