Richmond’s Inter Arma have announced that their third album Paradise Gallows is set for a July 8 release on Relapse Records. Characteristically eschewing easy genre classification, the new nine-song album is direct and foreboding while maintaining a nuanced, artful perspective. The band’s signature palette of dissonant chord structures and abyssal low-end has been augmented with swathes of thick, impressionistic melody that lend Paradise Gallows an epic sense of scale, both lyrically and sonically. Divergent moments of bludgeoning distortion and acoustic passages (including the band’s first-ever foray into clean vocals) spar with complex rhythmic structures across 71 minutes of expansive, progressive heaviness. Dense, funereal, and richly evocative, Paradise Gallows is a vibrant blend of doom, post-metal, sludge, avant-garde, black and death metal; a singular and powerful new addition to the band’s already monumental discography.
Inter Arma are presently on tour, and have also announced new headlining tour dates with Georgia’s Withered this coming July and August. A full list of dates is available below.
