Dance Gavin Dance are one of the most active rock bands of the early summer, recently releasing Tree City Sessions 3 and embarking on a cross-country tour. The new album features re-recorded songs from different eras of the band’s discography.
“The Tree City Live albums have always been very fun for us all to make,” drummer Andrew Wells said. “TC3 is no exception. It really showcases Andrew’s incredible vocal talents, with a wide range of songs from the entire DGD discography. We hope the fans enjoy it as much as we do!”
Wells is still relatively new to the band, joining in 2024. The album allows fans to appreciate the new vocalist in a familiar space, the iconic throwback Dance Gavin Dance tracks. Maybe most importantly, reimagined songs give bands a moment to showcase their growth. Taking something old and saying, “This is what we would do now after all these years” solidifies an image while paying homage to the songs that hooked original fans.
The moment “The Robot With Human Hair, Pt. 3” dropped in May, fans knew Dance Gavin Dance reached a new level with Wells. He injected flair into the track, leaning on his incredible, soaring vocals. Wells provides the same aura in “It’s Safe To Say You Dig The Backseat.” Listening to a tune reimagined nearly 20 years after the original dropped feels like you are cheating on the song with the same song. But it’s too good to stop listening.
“The entire Tree City Sessions series has given us the opportunity to showcase each lineup’s strengths on various songs throughout the entire catalog,” Wells says. “Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Deathstar album, so being able to emulate Kurt and bring my own passion to this version of ‘Robot 3’ was truly an honor.”
Dance Gavin Dance are on a two-month-long tour with massive lineup. The Fall Of Troy, Horse The Band, Wolf & Bear, and Novelists will join them in some of the biggest cities across the country.
