Richard “Richie Cip” Cipriano, the original bassist for legendary hardcore outfit Sick of It All, is facing a tough battle following a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
As a pivotal figure during the band’s formative years, Cipriano’s muscular basslines helped forge the raw, energetic foundation of New York Hardcore (NYHC). His signature playing is deeply woven into the genre’s history, driving the band’s self-titled 1987 Revelation Records seven-inch and their groundbreaking 1989 debut album, Blood, Sweat and No Tears. His work during this era helped shape a sound and culture that inspired generations of musicians globally.

Now, the tight-knit community he helped build is rallying behind him. To help ease the heavy financial strain of his medical journey, the Sweet Relief Musicians Fund has launched the Richie Cip Fund. This initiative provides vital financial assistance for career musicians, covering critical medical treatments, prescriptions, insurance premiums, and basic living expenses like housing and utilities.
Fans and scene members looking to show solidarity can support Cipriano directly. A dedicated fundraising T-shirt is currently available via the Revelation Records webstore, with all proceeds benefiting his care and recovery. Direct donations and spreading the word go a long way in supporting a NYHC pioneer when he needs it most.
