Reigning Sound recently shared “Oh Christine,” one of bandleader Greg Cartwright’s favorite songs on his forthcoming LP. The new single marks another step towards the May 21 release of A Little More Time with Reigning Sound, the group’s first full-length album in seven years.

Cartwright says of of the new song:

“’Oh Christine’ was written as a folk ballad, but when Graham started playing 4/4 behind me at rehearsal, it took on a whole different feel. The counterpoint of the electric guitar, the double-time bridge, everything about it just fell right into place. I love it when that happens.”

The lyric “Spring has come, winter’s gone / And the seasons seem strange / Time may pass but time won’t change” from “Oh Christine” will be sure to resonate with many in 2021.

A Little More Time is the first in-studio collaboration with Reigning Sound’s original “Memphis lineup” of Cartwright (guitar, vocals), Jeremy Scott (bass), Greg Roberson (drums), and Alex Greene (keyboards) since 2005’s Home for Orphans LP, which Merge reissued last year. For the new record, Cartwright invited Elen Wroten (cello), Krista Wroten (violin), Graham Winchester (additional drums and percussion), and John Whittemore (pedal steel) to play on some of the tracks. Beyond that, Coco Hames (The Ettes, Parting Gifts) sings co-lead vocals on “Just Say When.”

Pre-order the album today on CD, LP, and limited-edition yellow and green swirl Peak Vinyl. The record is available in the Merge store along with an exclusive album art t-shirt that can be bundled at a discount with the CD or vinyl.
