With over 97 percent of weekend tickets already sold and more curator-picked bands announced, Roadburn 2020 is already shaping up to be one of the biggest festivals of the new decade.
Artistic Director Walter Hoeijmakers comments, “It’s so encouraging to see that people have really got on board with what we’re doing at Roadburn for next year—as demonstrated by tickets being so close to being sold out. We are delighted to have some true fan favorites coming to Roadburn next year, as well as pushing the boundaries of what a heavy music festival can be in 2020 with some new artists. This latest announcement encapsulates all of that and more.”
One name that both curators James Kent and Emma Ruth Rundle landed on was French blackgaze pioneers Alcest. Playing a set entitled Visions du Futur that’s focussed on their two most recent releases, Kodama and Spiritual Instinct, Roadburn 2020 will be the perfect showcase for where the band are now.
Kent has also chosen genre-defiers Okkultokrati. With their upcoming, as-yet-unnamed fifth album being rooted in metal, the group’s eclectic bend of hardcore punk and synth-driven, gothic aesthetics will no doubt be pushed to newfound corners of their expansive musical atlas.
Rundle has curated Inter Arma plus 40 Watt Sun and Patrick Walker. Inter Arma will be playing their most recent, groundbreaking album Sulphur English in full at Roadburn, on the main stage, no less.
Patrick Walker will be performing two different sets in 2020. One will be geared towards the past of 40 Watt Sun, and one will be a clear look towards the future. The 40 Watt Sun performance will feature Patrick playing The Inside Room in its entirety (much to Rundle’s joy), with a full band and second guitarist. His solo set will also include as-yet-unreleased tracks.
Other confirmed names include Algiers, Richard Dawson, Dynfari, bad breeding, White Ward, Dommengang, Kungens Män, Darsombra, and Tau and the Drones of Praise.
Weekend tickets for Roadburn are on sale now (three-day tickets are sold out; four-day tickets remain on sale). Single-day tickets will be on sale on December 10 priced €67 for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday tickets, and €60.50 for Sunday tickets.
