The Panturas are heading to California this September for their first-ever US tour. If you’ve never heard of this Indonesian surf-rock band, now’s the time. Here’s what you need to know before they hit four cities across the state.

The band formed in Jatinangor, Bandung. Abyan Zaki handles vocals and guitar. Rizal Taufik plays guitar. Bagus “Gogon” holds down bass, and Surya Fikri drives the rhythm on drums. Together, they draw from surf-rock icons like Dick Dale and The Ventures, then blend that influence with classic Indonesian rock groups such as Kwartet Bintang and Eka Sapta. If you’re into The Growlers, Black Lips, or Los Straitjackets, The Panturas should slot right into your rotation.

The band released their mini-album, Mabuk Laut, in February 2018. It pushed them into Indonesia’s micro-gig scene and opened doors to major domestic festivals. In 2021, The Panturas followed that success with their debut full-length album, Ombak Banyu Asmara; a record that carried them further than they expected. By 2024, the band had spent years refining their sound. They released a mini-album that year built around Sundanese influences, blending traditional pentatonic scales into their signature surf-rock DNA.

The Panturas have carried this trip as a dream for years. In a social media post, the band called California a place that always felt distant yet somehow familiar. “California was always one of those places that felt very far away from our corner of the world, but somehow familiar at the same time through the music, films, photos, and stories we grew up with,” they wrote.

The Panturas will perform in four cities across California:

  • September 22, 2026 – The Starlet Room at Harlow’s, Sacramento
  • September 23, 2026 – Cornerstone, Berkeley
  • September 25, 2026 – The Moroccan Lounge, Los Angeles
  • September 26, 2026 – Voodoo Room at House of Blues, San Diego
