Album Premiere: Citric Dummies – Split With Turnstile

Critic Dummies

Minneapolis power trio Citric Dummies—made up of bassist/vocalist David Lunch, guitarist David Cronutberger, and drummer D.V. Tinner—are everything that’s right with rock ‘n’ roll music. Offering a distinct departure from their 2023 Danzig-esque album Zen and the Arcade of Beating Your Ass, the band are debuting their blistering new album with a cheeky title, Split With Turnstile, which is out today through Feel It Records.

“Their energy leaps out of the speakers; their tempos will furrow the brow of any fist-pumping speed purist, and their irreverence dances quite artistically on the line between provocative and antagonistic without ever being juvenile or cruel,” says Pierce Jordan from Soul Glo about the new record.

“We were on tour, driving though Montana, and were forced to eat at Subway,” says David Lunch in describing the new album. “As we each ate our own individual Italian BMTs, gagging and welling up with tears from the taste, we grew even more disgusted by looking at the local inhabitants and decided to turn our attention to the wall art. For some reason, this Subway had an image of the J/Z train stop at Bowery in Manhattan’s Chinatown/Lower East Side area.

“We started looking at the turnstiles and our drummer, D.V. Tinner, remarked that the last time he went through one of them, it wouldn’t move, so he tried to jump it, but he slipped and fell—and the arm pinned him against the side directly into his groin. He howled in pain and anger and the attendant had to come unlock it and free him. I decided to title the record ‘Split With Turnstile’ as a tribute to his embarrassing injury and to signal to the world that this band would never use a turnstile ever again. We are splitting from these archaic and divisive devices.”
