British Columbian punk is here to take your Friday by storm. Two B.C. bands—The Fomites and We Are Not A Cult—are teaming up for a split EP called An Eye for a Pie on Ontario punk label Cursed Blessings Records, and today you get a first taste of the upcoming EP with each band premiering a single off the upcoming split.

First up we’ve got The Fomites, a skatepunk band from Vancouver who, when they aren’t working their day jobs, play songs about “pizza, Stephen King, anti fascism, and partying in the face of Armageddon.” They serve up their track “Down the Drain,” a skate punk tune that packs as much of a punk-rock punch as it does rich melody. Speaking about the track, The Fomites say:

“…Equal parts melodic anthem and furious call to action, The Fomites wrote Down The Drain as a product of the times we find ourselves in: a boring dystopia wherein the rich get richer at the expense of everyone and everything else for as long as we allow them to do so…”

Next up we’ve got We Are Not A Cult, who describe themselves as a “punk rock party band” pulling from equal parts skate punk, hardcore punk, and classic rock ‘n’ roll. Their track “Taken Men” has a bit of a surf vibe to it, but at its heart it’s clearly a classic punk anthem that remembers the true soul of the genre while delivering a surprisingly wholesome message. Speaking about the track, We Are Not A Cult say:

“…Taken Men is about being the daddest, most married band on the planet. It’s a thank-you to the partners who could do better, and don’t. It’s a song that we couldn’t get out of our heads once we wrote it, and now it’s going to be stuck in yours…”
