New York-based Bad Mary are sharing the video for their version of “You’re Standing on My Neck,” also known as the theme from MTV’s Daria, and you can catch it right here at New Noise.
The band itself is not your typical band with a typical line-up, featuring powerhouse lead vocalist Amanda Mac, her husband Mike Staub on bass, her dad Bill Mac on drums, and her Hofstra University professor David Henderson on guitar.
Their newest EP Rock and Roll Classic Vol. 6 pays homage to songs spanning 1987 to 2007, featuring their takes on jams like Blondie’s “One Way of Another,” Jefferson Airplane’s “White Rabbit,” The Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me,” and Miley Cyrus’s “See You Again.”
The EP follows the release of their first album, Better Days, in 2013, followed by another three fast and loud EPs, 2016’s Killing Dinosaurs, 2016’s We Could Have Saved the World, and 2017’s Glitter Bomb. In 2019, Bad Mary release their latest album, The Return of Space Girl, a 330-minute punk rock space opera, followed by an award-winning animated movie of the album.
Staub chats more about the EP’s collection of tracks:
“Some of these songs we have been performing live for years, and others are songs that we always wanted to play. They are all songs we love, and we wanted to put a unique punk-rock spin on them. Due to our band being multigenerational, our influences come from a lot of places. Whether it is the ’70s, ’80s, ’90s, or ’00s, all of these songs hit us at important times in our lives.”
