Providence RI’s hardcore institution (vegan/ grind/ punk innovators) Dropdead recently went up to Montreal, Canada to co-headline, along with INFEST, the Earslaughter Fest Volume 4. The band planned to do the weekend gig in one shot, no other shows. They were excited to join bands like Endorphins Lost, Hummingbird of Death, Tomb Mold, Wound Man, Fuck The Facts, and many others.
While in Montreal, they had their van stolen. The members are embedded in the global DIY/underground scene and have been for decades. This is always done out-of-pocket and on their own, especially seeing as the band is on their own label. So, a blow like this severely cripples. The band continues to propagate meaning and purpose through their crushing hardcore which has inspired bands across punk, grind, and hardcore genres for decades with a strong political, vegan, and anti-consumerism message since 1991.
The band is currently recording a new album, the first in 20 years. To prep for the new record, the band created some demos this past spring. They will now release those demos as means to benefit getting a new van. Grab the tracks on their Bandcamp.
From Dropdead: “These tracks were not intended to be released; these are from a working demo of 28 tracks we recorded this spring. A listening tool for us to fine tune songs for a forthcoming LP to soon be recorded. These may not be the future titles, or finished lyrics, but for now, this is where we’re at.
“We are releasing these ten songs to raise some funds towards replacing our van that was stolen in June. A lot of people asked how they could help out, and this is one of two things people can do that will help us out greatly. You can also go to Deathwishinc.com and buy some merch. We appreciate any and all support! Thanks!”
