After releasing their newest album RUCKUS! back in August of this year, the post-hardcore band Movements hit the road to bring it to the public. Along that trail, they stopped in Philadelphia, PA at The Fillmore, a show they were recording. What was more significant about this show was that it was a homecoming for their tourmates, the Philly-based indie punk band Mannequin Pussy.
Mannequin Pussy’s third and most recent album, 2019’s Patience, was their first release after signing with Epitaph Records. Like many artists, the following year would prove to be a time to clamp down and experiment with new material as the pandemic took its course. From that time, the band emerged in 2021 with their EP, Perfect, which was recorded as a three-piece that did not include guitarist Athanasios Paul. This year has seen the band officially make guitarist Maxine Steen part of the group as they launched their own label, Romantic Records, re-releasing their second album Romantic, and a new single, “I Got Heaven.”
After crowd-pleasing sets from Heart To Gold and the socially outspoken Soft Cult, Mannequin Pussy took the stage to a sold-out hometown crowd. Movements would later note it was the first large show outside of California they’ve sold out. For 45 minutes, Marissa Dabice delivered high-energy, aggressive melodies on top of Mannequin Pussy’s solid live sound—the exception being the 2021 single “Pigs Is Pigs” performed at the end of their set as Missy and bassist Colin’s Regisford switched roles and instruments.
