We’re pleased to bring you the premiere of The Molochs’ music video for their song “Too Lost In Love” (watch it below). The track is taken from the band’s new album Flowers in the Spring, which is out now through Innovative Leisure. You can purchase the album here.
The video’s director Evan Pritts commented:
The idea of capturing a dramatic performance within a pop music video was exciting to me. That was the point of entry. I had heard about this process for videos where the artist is recorded singing live on set instead of lip syncing to the studio master. It had been in my head for a while and when Lucas called me up I figured this must be the project for it. The Jonathan Demme video for Springsteen’s ‘Streets of Philadelphia’ was a big inspiration. They use this technique in that video and I figured the trick was to put Lucas in different situations and see how he reacts. It is very intimate, you can feel him performing. And it was not easy for him – it is not a natural way to sing. We approached it like a narrative film set. But Lucas dove into it without hesitation and I love the track we made.
Upcoming Shows:
September 07 – Los Angeles, CA at Lodge Room Highland Park
September 17 – Los Angeles, CA at The Echo
About the band:
The Molochs are essential listening for indie-rock fans in 2018. Their debut record, America’s Velvet Glory, was an album of electrified rock ‘n’ roll like Dylan and Lou Reed by the band named after the Ginsberg-ian glutton god who demanded the sacrifice of all things good and pure. But now it’s 2018 and the Ginsberg-ian god Moloch is fatter and happier than ever, so the band couldn’t just make another record.
This new record came to songwriter Fitzsimons in flash moments, written on nerve-wracking transcontinental flights or on isolated nights in an L.A. apartment, captured at once in bursts of insight or rescued from almost-abandonment in discarded notebooks. As on Glory, inspiration from Syd Barrett, Dylan, Nikki Sudden and kindred spirit Peter Perrett of the Only Ones was at work, but the Molochs are endlessly ravenous when it comes to things to read and listen to and learn from.
On Flowers they refine and recombine their sound, working in that long tradition of poets who cover (or discover) themselves in pop songs. The charming/disarming “Too Lost In Love” makes feeling down sound like cheering up, just like the Clean did.
