Singer songwriter Lydia Loveless, who’s music can’t be pinned down to one genre, blending alternative, country and pop, has announced their upcoming album Nothing’s Gonna Stand in My Way Again. The album is set to release on September 22 via Bloodshot Records.
Following their 2020 album Daughter, the upcoming album is anticipated to deliver an even sharper and more refined version of Loveless’ songwriting, which has always been known for its vulnerability. The album keeps the vintage country heart that has always inspired Loveless’ music, while also presenting a more well rounded version of that.
Their latest single, “Toothache,” is the first glimpse into what’s to come off the album. On the song’s meaning, Loveless describes it as, “inspired by a literal toothache and knowing there were way too many other things on my plate at the time to be concerned with my fucking tooth. The millions of little things that pile up when you’re broke and overwhelmed until you snap over the dumbest thing, like running out of dish soap… I struggled with whether or not I could write an anthem with the chorus just being ‘Now I’ve got a toothache!’ But I couldn’t get it out of my head. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut.”
The single comes with a new video directed by Katie Harriman, depicting Loveless up close and personal.
