Sculpture Club are wearing their heart on their sleeve with this new LP. S/T shows how the band has truly honed in a distinct sound and carved out a style all their own. Weaving in indie, nü wave, rock, and what the band call jangle punk, this album has all the elements to round out your beach goth summer soundtrack. It’s as dreamy as it is melancholy, and after one listen, you’ll find yourself hitting repeat.
Hailing from Salt Lake City, Sculpture Club produced S/T via Born Loser Records, and it marks their third full-length album since their formation in 2016. Each consecutive album has shown the band’s maturation, which is reflected through the music lyrically, instrumentally, and melodically. According to the group, their music speaks to the power of community, form, and function.
The collective rattle a nostalgia for the music of yesteryear; even the direction of their music videos feel like you’re watching a home movie from the ’80s or ’90s. Having been likened to Robert Smith of The Cure, frontman Chaz Costello’s vocals carry with it a deep, soothing intonation that cradles the listener with every verse. Sculpture Club is definitely a band to put on your 2024 radar.
