NEWS: Taxi Girls share new single “Sunshine”

Taxi Girls

Taxi Girls use The Ramones, The Muffs, and Veruca Salt as references to draw comparisons from. Those three bands are a good start and give a good description to anyone whose yet to explore how deep the punk rock underbelly runs.  Those who have will pick up on additional elements upon hearing the band’s debut single, “Sunshine,” coming off their debut EP, Coming Up Roses, out July 23rd.

The three-chord structure and balance of raw-yet bright production of “Sunshine” give the song credence to the band growing up in the shadows of Joey Ramone and Kim Shattuck. Still, the song’s upbeat tick shows the early 1990s catalog of Lookout Records left an undeniable impact on the songwriting direction these women took with this new band. A new band, yes, but this Montreal trio aren’t new heads to Quebec’s burgeoning punk n’ roll scene, with members having spent time in Dirty Cheetah and Pale Lips. The song’s versatility is three-fold, with the lyrics reading like a punk rock lullaby for parents to soothe their newborns with and the language generalities within the lyrics granting leeway for the potential sync placement.

A cross-continental partnership with Dirtcult Records will see Coming Up Roses released on cassette in the United States, with Italian garage beat label Wild Honey Records handling the release on vinyl for Europe.
