Graveyard
Innocence and Decadence
(Nuclear Blast)

When it comes to fuzzed-out, psychedelic blues rock, Sweden’s Graveyard are easily one of the leaders in the genre, if there’s such an oddly specific genre for it, that is. Since releasing Hisingen Blues, their Nuclear Blast debut in 2011, the band has kind of exploded in popularity. Granted, they aren’t massive mainstream stars, but I find that kind of hard to believe also, especially given how genuinely fantastic their newest album Innocence and Decadence is.

The great thing about a band like Graveyard is that regardless of what kind of heavy music you prefer, there really is something for everyone. If you like your rock fast and groovy, they’ve got you on tracks like “Magnetic Shunk”, “Never Theirs To Sell” and “From A Hole In The Wall”. If you prefer something more melodic and laid back, tracks like “Exit 97”, “Too Much Is Not Enough” and “Stay For A Song” are perfect! If you just want something fun, memorable and relatively heavy to throw on, “The Apple And The Tree” is another great offering from the album.

Finding legitimately fun and enjoyable rock n’ roll is an increasingly difficult task this day and age, sadly. Sure, lots of people are playing rock, but it all seems to fall by the wayside in terms of being something less than forgettable. Fortunately, Graveyard is a band that has not only found their signature sound, but they keep expanding on it enough to keep things interesting and each album has gotten progressively more incredible. (Brandon Ringo)
