Sugar Horse are a doomgaze band from Bristol, U.K. They recently put out a new release called Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, which is either an EP or a single, depending on how you look at it. The EP contains one single song that clocks in at over 17 minutes in length. It’s streaming now on their Bandcamp.
The track opens on a long, a capella, group vocal that bears a resemblance to chanting more than singing. Then the crushing guitars come in at a sludge pace, reverberating with tremendous power. The vocals have a sort of hardcore/screamo style to them, but then come back into a more singing style with some haunting melodies.
After about six and a half minutes, the song downshifts into post-rock territory as a slower, quieter sound overtakes the track before opening itself back up to the devastatingly powerful hard rock. By the time we reach the end of the epic tune, it has descended into a screaming, gnashing, chaotic cacophony of fury. This is truly a masterful doomgaze epic that you’ll want to check out.
