Get ready; Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds are dropping a banger and their fifth LP, That Delicious Vice on April 19 via The Red Records. Check out “Wicked World” featuring LA’s punk legend, the one-and-only singer-songwriter punk pioneer trailblazer, Alice Bag.
The Video was directed by Chris Carlone. Their new lineup is exquisite with leveling up for the future. Also, Kid and Alice are going to be a part of the one off at the L.A. Intersections Festival at the Broad Museum downtown.
“We’ve gone from a four piece to a three piece,” says Kid. Kid Congo & The Monkey Birds are one of the most eccentric and respected punk and garage bands of our time. “Wicked World” featuring Alice Bag takes us back to another time, to the ’80s when music was truly evolving and unleashing a truly unique sounds and style. Take rockabilly, grunge, rock and hypnotic tripped out all in one, and there you have an amazing recipe for your eyes, ears, and complicated dark souls.
The video is quite erratic and takes us down that crazy road we call life. As they take a trip down to some long dark dirt road, the guitars, bass, and drums go into a time warp as the vocals are very theatrical. The lyrics are intense, as Alice throws it down with her angry chants:
“One two three four five six seven—You’re going to Hell and I’m going to Heaven.”
It’s guttural and savage. Every lyric and sound remind me of a scary movie when you see serial killer roaming the streets for their next prey.
A standout track is “The Boy Had It All,” which was inspired by Howie Pyro, who died in 2022, stated by Kid with the most respect to the artist.
“I’m not sure if living in the desert is making me want more space in music or not,” says Kid. “Maybe I’m turning into a desert stoner rocker. But I’m not a stoner, so that’s not happening.”
That Delicious Vice was produced by Kid Congo & The Pink Monkey Birds, recorded by the great Jim Waters (Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) in Tucson, Arizona in his Waterworks Studios.
Kid Congo and The Pink Monkey Birds are hitting the road and overseas to the land down under, Australia, and then back to the U.S., dates Tba.
