News: Mdou Moctar Release New Single and Video ‘Imouhar’

Mdou Moctar’s track “Imouhar” released ahead of the album Funeral for Justice that will be out on May 3. The band ignite their passion for the music and breathe life back into their culture of the indigenous people of Africa, the Tuareg.

A rare fierceness is captured by the Nigerien quartet Mdou Moctar.  The music is louder, faster, and more erratic. The guitar solos are scorching, and the lyrics are politically charged without fear. Nothing is suppressed or absent of heavy rock here. However, it’s not just about blowing minds musically.  The message of the music is to convey to the world and to their people the importance and genuineness of cultural preservation.

Watch the video “Imouhar” below.

Producer and bassist Mikey Coltun expressed, “With ‘Funeral for Justice,’ I really wanted this to shine with the political message because of everything that’s going on. As the band got tighter and heavier live, it made sense to capture this urgency and this aggression—It wasn’t a forced thing, it was very natural.”

Punk and metal elements are all heavily layered throughout the song. You’ll probably be hooked in by the thought-provoking lyrics. This is about letting go of the mundain that permeates our existence and expanding our ideas of what rock is meant to be.
