Palehound recorded a cover of Elliot Smith’s standout song, “Southern Belle,” originally off Smith’s self-titled record. This track comes bearing gifts, an exclusive new photo of Smith off of Elliott Smith: Expanded 25th Anniversary Edition dropping August 28 (Kill Rock Stars).

The expanded record gives us a look back at Smith’s connection to Portland, 25 years later, and includes a Live at Umbra Penumbra, the earliest known recording of Smith’s solo career.

The two record some enshrined in a 52-page coffee table book that contains handwritten lyrics, and JJ Gonson took unseen photographs. In addition, Larry Crane producer and engineer, dug through the Smith archives to find pictures and audio to painstakingly clean it all up and build the Umbra Penumbra recording from a cassette recording given to him by Casey Crynes.

The album is up for pre-order here.
