Following the May release of the first installment in a collection of unused tracks, This Will Destroy You have added the sequel Variations & Rarities: 2004-2019 Vol. II. The series takes unreleased material from the last 15 years including demos, unreleased tracks, alternate versions, and unused soundtrack material.

Vol. II pulls heavily from material from the band’s 2008 self-titled album. The collection’s Bandcamp listing offers detail on the genesis of the pieces. “Rejected Football (Score)” comes from when “a couple of guys wanted the band to score an entire sports documentary, but of course ‘needed it like, yesterday.’” An earlier concept for “The Mighty Rio Grande” “isn’t even half as long as what the final would become, but one can hear the band starting to put together all the big set pieces at this stage.”
