Life After Youth can’t wait to get weird with this new video for “RIP YOUTH,” from their new record Grunge Pop Vol. 1, out now.
The original “grunge rock boy band,” Life After Youth, formed in Austin, Texas in early 2017 and released their debut single “Drag You Down” at the beginning of 2018. To support the release, they teamed up with their local music scene to put on and sell out their debut show at The Ballpark in Arlington, TX in February of 2018.
Their single “beetlejuicebeetlejuicebeetlejuice” is their most successful single to date with over 430k streams on Spotify alone. This song has connected them with what is now their key demographic and provides a taste of what’s to come. They seamlessly blend grunge rock and pop to create their own, unique sound. Their live performances are full of high energy and an aggressive stage presence silhouetted against a backdrop of pop songs. A hole exists in popular music where guitars, drums, and humanity used to live: this is the space in which Life After Youth thrives.
“Grunge pop is a concept that we came up with years ago as a kind of a tongue-in-cheek reference to what we wanted our band to be sonically,” the explain “It’s the idea that grunge instrumentation and energy could be channeled into what are classically ‘pop’ song structures, offering a fresh take on the music we loved as kids.
“We’ve since embraced it as our genre. Grunge Pop Vol. 1 isn’t an EP,’it’s a mixtape that we made for the versions of ourselves we lost as we got older.”
RIP YOUTH is a song which embraces the sobering fact that we’re all dying, all of the time. I was born to die, and so were you. This song is meant to inspire a sense of urgency, knowing that we’re all always getting closer to the end. Adults are dead kids, “RIP YOUTH.”
