Singer/songwriter Josh Malerman is known for being the New York Times best-selling author of the book Bird Box, which was turned into a Netflix hit film starring Sandra Bullock, but he is also a member of the Detroit rock band The High Strung. The band are getting ready to release their album, HannaH, on October 29, recorded in 2002 and lost to the flow of time. Ahead of the album, the band are premiering the track “Turned It Away.”

While HannaH was recorded 19 years ago, the album was officially mixed and mastered in 2021, and as the band found themselves with more time, they used it to record another album, These are Good Times.

HannaH has a wide range of sounds, also exploring an abundance of moods, topics, and types of songs, all as a testament to Malerman, fellow singer/songwriter Mark Owen, along with fellow Detroiters bassist Cha Stocker, drummer Derek Berk, and Clevelander Jason Berkowitz.

Malerman talks about the track “Turned Away,” premiering ahead of the action: “The speaker takes a paranoiac/enlightening walk in a storm down a hill. What is the ‘it’ that the speaker turns away from? What’ve you got?” He poses.
