Indie-pop songstress Jessica Morale is gearing up to release her new single, “GIRLS!” (feat. Alex Ran) on March 12. The defiant new track is a dark pop feminist anthem that encourages women to be whatever they want to be.

New Noise Magazine is proud to premiere “GIRLS!” (feat. Alex Ran) below:

“GIRLS!” is the fourth single taken from Morale’s upcoming debut album, Phases, set to be released later this year. Seething with sparkling synths, booming sub-bass, urban beats, and defiant lyrics, “GIRLS!” dares the listener to embrace their femininity and be unapologetic in defying the patriarchy.

The track was produced by Beya Dabisso and co-written by Morale and pop singer Alex Ran, who appears on the track with a guest feature.

On the inspiration behind “GIRLS!,” Morale states:

“I wrote this song for every woman who’s been told by a man that they ‘look better when they smile.’ I wrote it to inspire women to be whoever they want to be and be unapologetic in the most badass way. This is by far my most ‘commercially pop’ sounding release, and I’m so stoked for fans to hear a new side of me.

The whole Phases album cycle is all about coming of age and the trials and tribulations we must go through to become who we are, so I felt it was appropriate to take a step back from the introspective sad songs I’ve been releasing and shine a light on coming into womanhood and completely owning it.

Writing this song with another badass female, Alex Ran, was so liberating. We really clicked and pretty much wrote the whole song in just a few hours. I wanted it to sound dreamlike yet chaotic with the booming sub bass, ethereal synths, and bitchy lyrics. I really hope this can inspire women to completely own themselves in the most badass way.”
